Why We Built This Calculator

If you have ever tried to find out how much a billboard costs in the UK, you know the problem. Every website says "it depends" or "contact us for a quote". There are no public price lists. Media owners negotiate bespoke rates. Agencies add their own margins. The result is an industry where buyers have almost no idea what they should be paying.

We built the billboard cost calculator to change that. It uses real market data from our bookings across the UK to give you instant, realistic price ranges. No signup. No sales call. Just select your options and see what it costs.

It is not perfect. Billboard pricing genuinely does vary based on factors like exact site location, current demand, and seasonality. But it gives you a realistic starting point, which is more than anyone else in the UK market offers.

What Affects Billboard Advertising Costs

Five main factors determine what you will pay for a billboard campaign in the UK:

1. Billboard Format and Size

Size is the single biggest cost driver. A standard 48-sheet billboard (3m x 6m) is the most common and cost-effective roadside format, starting from around £650 for two weeks. A 96-sheet billboard doubles the size and roughly doubles the price. At the other end, a 6-sheet panel at a bus shelter starts from just £300. Digital billboards cost more per cycle but allow you to change creative without reprinting.

2. Location

City matters enormously. A 48-sheet billboard in central London can cost £2,000-4,000 for two weeks. The same format in Manchester might cost £850-1,500. In a smaller city like Sheffield or Newcastle, you could pay £650-1,000. Within each city, sites on major arterial roads and motorway junctions command higher rates than quieter residential streets.

3. Campaign Duration

The standard booking period is two weeks, but you get much better value by booking longer. A 12-week campaign typically costs 20-30% less per week than a 2-week booking. Annual contracts can save 40-50% per week. Our calculator adjusts rates automatically based on your selected duration.

4. Number of Sites

Volume discounts kick in at 3+ sites. Book 3-5 sites and save around 5%. Book 6-10 for approximately 10% off. At 11-20 sites, expect around 15% discount, and campaigns with 21+ sites can achieve up to 20% off. Multi-city campaigns also benefit from consolidated buying power across different media owners.

5. Time of Year

Demand drives pricing. January and February tend to be cheaper as many advertisers hold off after Christmas spending. Summer months and the run-up to Christmas (October-November) are typically the most expensive periods. Our calculator shows average rates. City-by-City Pricing Differences

Location is one of the most significant cost variables. Here is how pricing compares across the UK for a standard 48-sheet billboard, two-week cycle:

  • London:£1,500-4,000+ (highest demand, highest footfall)
  • Manchester:£850-2,000 (strong demand, major arterials)
  • Birmingham:£800-1,800 (second city, ring road premium)
  • Leeds:£700-1,500 (growing demand, good value)
  • Edinburgh:£750-1,600 (tourist premium, city centre sites)
  • Regional cities:£650-1,200 (best cost per impression)

The takeaway: if your audience is not exclusively in London, regional campaigns deliver significantly more reach per pound. Our calculator shows this automatically when you compare cities.

Volume Discounts Explained

One of the calculator's most useful features is automatic volume discount calculation. Here is how it works:

  • 1-2 sites:Standard rate (no discount)
  • 3-5 sites:~5% discount
  • 6-10 sites:~10% discount
  • 11-20 sites:~15% discount
  • 21+ sites:~20% discount

These discounts stack with duration savings. A 10-site, 12-week campaign will cost significantly less per site per week than a single-site, 2-week booking. The calculator applies both discount types automatically.
